Cultural Competence for Hazards and Disaster Researchers: Framework and Training Module

چکیده

Although the need for cultural competence among healthcare service providers and other practitioners has long been recognized, there much less focus on this concept in field of hazards disaster research. To help fill gap, technical note offers a definitional framework building researchers describes training module that assists with developing such competency. Drawing extant literature, article conceptualizes research as an ongoing process contributes to understanding attributes affected individuals, households, communities, societies are attempting characterize. The four-step presented here helps move from awareness knowledge sensitivity, ultimately, competence. This practice requires reflexivity, respect, humility. time effort involved can promote ethical research, improve experience participants, enrich quality data collected, enhance overall creation mobilization.
